A Guide To PVC Care

PVC, made from a fabric base coated with polyvinyl chloride for its shine, requires delicate handling due to its heat sensitivity. To preserve its integrity, avoid exposing it to heat sources, machine-washing, ironing, or overstretching, as these actions may lead to cracking or melting.
Non-organic solvents, particularly acetone found in nail polish remover, can distort the material and should be avoided. Unlike latex, PVC retains its natural shine and does not require additional polishing. However, improper care and storage can dull its appearance over time - to maintain its freshness, follow these steps:

1 - Choose a PVC specific cleaner, and follow the product's instructions for dilution with lukewarm water. Ensure the water temperature is moderate, not too hot as this can melt and damage the material

2 - Immerse the garment in the diluted cleaning solution and use a soft cloth to gently wipe away visible dirt. Submerge the garment for no longer than 2-3 minutes.

3 - Rinse the garment thoroughly with cold, clean water. Hang it inside out to dry, allowing the fabric lining to dry completely before turning it right side out to enable the PVC layer to finish drying. Avoid direct sunlight during the drying process.

4 - Once dry, store the PVC garment in a cool, dry place away from moisture. If you have multiple colors, especially white, place a barrier between them to prevent dye transfer, which cannot be rectified.

Choose cleaner specifically designed for PVC/Vinyl fabrics - we like the BeGloss Vinyl Wash - and follow the product's instructions for dilution with lukewarm water. Ensure the water temperature is moderate, not too hot.

For short-term freshening, a fabric freshener spray can be used on the garment's interior if it's worn briefly and stays relatively clean. However, this is not a substitute for proper cleaning. Always handle PVC with care, following these steps to ensure its longevity and shine.
